(Technical) Umunze, Anambra State on Friday, May 25, 2018, following the arrival
of Dr (Mrs) Theresa Obumneme Okoli, as the first internal Provost of
the institution. She was appointed the 4th Substantive Provost of
the College by President Muhammadu Buhari, with effect from May 17,
2018.
Dr Okoli's appointment opened a new chapter in the history of the institution as the first
staff in the College to ascend the exalted office, since its establishment by Decree 4 of 1986. Her appointment was applauded by members
of staff and students, who described her as an amicable and
intelligent scholars that would invest his wealth of experience in the
College. Members of the academic staff also hailed her appointment as a popular choice, noting that she would live up to expectations as one familiar with the terrain of the College.
Dr Okoli, who was the former Dean, School of Agriculture and Home Economics Education, took over the mantle of leadership from Dr (Mrs) Cecilia Nonye Ibekwe, who has been on acting capacity since January 17, 2018,
after the expiration of the tenure of the 3rd substantive Provost,
Professor Josephat Okechukwu Ogbuagu,mni.
Dr Okoli joined the College on March 3, 1992 as an Assistant Lecturer
in the Department of Agricultural Education. She rose through the
ranks to become a Principal Lecturer in 2007 and later Chief Lecturer
on October 1, 2011.
She attended Girls Secondary School, Awgbu from 1979-1984, and emerged
as the best graduating student, Department of Agric Education, Anambra
State College of Education in 1988. She further bagged her first
degree in Agric Education from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN)
in 1990 and obtained her M.Ed in 1995. She also obtained Ph.D from the
Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) in 2011.
Dr Okoli served the College in various capacities, including Dean,
School of Agriculture & Home Economics Education (2015), Coordinator, Continuing Education Programme (CEP) (2013-2014). She also served as Dean Student Affairs Unit, Co-ordinator Sandwich Programme,
(2009-2010), H.O.D. Agricultural Education (2004-2006), Co-ordinator
College Permanent Campus (2002-2004), among others.
She served as National Commission for Colleges of Education
(NCCE) Resource Person of Accreditation Team to FCE Eha-Amufu in 2016.
In 2016, she was also a Consultant on Capacity Building in the Fadama
III AF World Bank Assisted Project and Resource Person in Special
Modular Agricultural Science Workshop for the Science Teachers
Association of Nigeria (STAN) in 2012.
As an erudite scholar, she is a member of various professional
associations, including the Forum for African Women Educationalist of
Nigeria (FAWEN), Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), World Council
for Curriculum and Instruction (WCCI) (International Chapter), World
Council for Curriculum and Instruction (Nigeria Chapter), Science
Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN), Certified Teacher, Teachers
Registration Council of Nigeria, Nigeria Association of Teacher of
Technology (NATT), Women in Colleges of Education (WICE), the Academic
Forum (TAF), and several others.
In the discharge of her duties, Dr Okoli received special
commendations for outstanding performance.
