www.odogwublog.com reports that cult
rivalry may have resumed at the Imo State University, Owerri as two
persons were left dead after two rival cults clashed.
The
deadly clash was said to be between members of Aye and bagger
confraternities of Imo state university, Owerri, at Delight students
hostel opposite the institution's main gate.
Sources
told Odogwublog.com that there was a gun duel between the two
rival cults for almost two hours, a development that forced passersby
and worshipers within the vicinity to scamper for safety.
The
source said "the people shooting are cultists who double as students of
IMSU. The shooting lasted for about two hours. It took the arrival of
the Policemen attached to the Orji Police division to calm the area",
the source explained.
According to him, nobody
knew the reason for the shooting adding that it started from Delight
hostel, where the cultists were seen exchanging hot words but coded.
Another
passerby said the shouting bout led into sporadic shootings within the
school environment, an action that left two unidentified students dead.
Meanwhile,
efforts to reach the Police spokesman for Imo State, SP Andrew Enwerem
proved abortive. However, another policeman who pleaded anonymity
confirmed the incident.
The
police source said that policemen deployed from Orji police division and
anti cultism unit of the command calmed the development.
Further,
he disclosed that the police arrested some of the cult members, adding
that the fleeing members were being trailed for arrest by the command.
The
officer said "yes, we have arrested some of the boys. They are telling
us how we nab their fleeing members. I assure you that we will nab
them", the policeman said.
Killings in the
institution had stopped under the former Police boss, Chris Ezike who
set up anti cultism units to checkmate cultism in the State.
