Jubilation as Ugwuanyi set to revive Enugu Newspapers

Executive Secretary, Enugu State Council of Art and Culture, Izueke Eddy Okolo has commended Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of the state for flagging off Nike Lake, Abakpa-Nike and Opi Nsukka dual carriage road in the state.

He also expressed gratitude to the Governor for setting machinery in motion for the rehabilitation of the ailing Star Printing and Publishing Company (SPPC) publishers of Daily star newspaper owned by the state government.

The governor, it would be recalled had earlier promised to totally revamp Daily Star and provide good welfare package for staff of the state-owned newspaper.

Chief Okolo observed that with good road networks in the state, tourists will troop to the state while art and culture would be promoted.

According to him: “with the flag off of Abakpa Nike, Nike Lake, Opi-Nsukka dual carriage way, Amankwo – Ameke – Amah brewing junction, ninth mile bypass, Ohom Orba junction, Imilike – Ogbodu Aba- Obollo Etiti-Amalla Obollo Afor-Udenu ring roads, the tourist sites in these area would be exposed to the public”

“My greatest happiness is the promise to revamp our newspaper out fit-Daily Star. The staff of the newspaper can compete favourably with national dailies with their great skills and experience and all they need is just encouragement by the government and people of the state,” he stated.

Chief Okolo said that information was very vital for development of any state or nation stressing that Daily Star will enable the state government to know what is happening in various communities in the state and with statistics and information, the state can plan very well.

It would be recalled that Governor Ugwuanyi approved the constitution of an inter-ministerial committee to review the state of the moribund Enugu State newspaper – Daily Star with a view to making it viable.
