Obiano set to review bore holes in the state

State government is on the move towards reviving all water projects and site new ones in the state. Governor Willie Obiano made this known while playing host to UNICEF team on Sector Wide Approach (SWAP), who paid him a courtesy visit at the governor's lodge, Amawba.

 UNICEF team on sector wide approach are in the state to use water project as an entry point to improve other sectors like education, agriculture and health to achieve the mission and vision of the state.

Receiving the group ,Governor Obiano called for the review of all the water bore hole projects in various community which he expressed displeasure over their non functionality.

The governor requested for inclusion of more council areas stating that government is ready to pay its own counterpart fund to extend the project ten council areas for each phase.

He called for quality assurrance on the job as the bore holes already done are done shuddily and advise the team to assess artissan water sources in the state as a way of facilitating the project and save cost.

 The leader of the group  Mr Anom Sundu who represented the country director UNICEF, Mr Charles Nzuki explained benefits accruable from SWAP project especially now that MDG progamme is paving way for sustaining development goals beggining from next year.

Mr Nzuki called all minisries departments and agencies to work with the team and key into creating a good Water governance that will lead to sustainable water hygein  and sanitation economy.

He added that the project will eliminate duplication of efforts but rather improve on those already on ground while they college abandoned ones and site new ones. Contributing, another member of the team Mr Roy Ndoma Egba stressed the need for government to partner SWAP in making urban water scheme to work as it will not only provide portable water for the people but will enhance revenue generation to the state and improve human development.

 Earlier, the special Adviser to the governor on budget and economic planning Mr Mark Okoye said that Anambra state  in collaboration with UNICEF has enlisted the sector wide approach with water supply and sanitation sector of the state that will engage the stakeholders in consultation and cordination to institute clearly identified best practices to ensure efficiency and accountability in service delivery.
