The Chairman, State House of Assembly Committee on Trade, Commerce and Industry, Dr. Pete Ibidia, says the committee will partner with the Ministry to realize the vision of Governor Willie Obiano in making the state the commercial hub of West Africa.
Dr. Ibida stated this when the committee paid a familiarization visit to the Ministry.
Dr. Ibida commended the Commissioner for Trade, Commerce and Industry, Mr. Ifeatu Onejeme, for working effectively with the Governor to improve the state’s Gross Domestic Product and creating enabling environment for foreign investments to thrive in the state.
He assured that the committee would assist the Ministry where necessary to enhance its operations.
In his remark, the Commissioner explained that the present administration has attracted investments worth more than two billion dollars to the state.
Mr. Onejema stated that the present administration, through public/private partnership, has attracted the West African Intercontinental Trade Centre to Ogbunike which would in turn, attract tourists to the state, thereby improving the state’s internally generated revenue.
He also listed other measures taken by the government to restore the glory of Anambra State as the commercial nerve centre of West Africa to include setting up of Shoprite in Awka, Onitsha and Nnewi which are capable of creating employment for the citizens and boosting the state Gross Domestic product.
He urged the State House of Assembly to make laws that would enhance commercial activities in the state.
