The Head of Guinness Eye Centre, Onitsha, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi, Dr. Akunne Akpakama, has urged the citizens to desist from using local herbs for eye treatment to prevent damage to the eyes.
Dr. Akpakama stated this at Umueri General Hospital when the University Teaching Hospital carried out free eye tests in the area to mark the World Sight Day.
Dr. Akpakama, represented by the Chief Nursing Officer of the Department, Mrs. Rita Udemba, regretted that most eye patients are suffering from cataract, glaucoma among others, because they patronized quacks to remove the infections, thereby damaging the eyes.
She advised the people to always go to eye specialists for eye checks, in order to prevent eye infections.
Dr. Akpakama commended those who provided them with drugs and glasses they gave those suffering from different eye ailments, including Mr. Edward Ibuzo who provided two buses that conveyed their medical team to Umueri General Hospital for the free eye tests.
