Onitsha residents send SOS to Obiano on road

Residents of the commercial city of Onitsha have expressed reservation over the delay in construction and completion of road contract awarded to Nigerian Army Engineer Onitsha by the Anambra State Government over 1 year ago.
Some of the traders at Emejulu Street by Old Market Road Onitsha, one of the roads awarded by Gov Willie Obiano to the Nigerian Army Engineering Regiment Onitsha ,expressed worry that after one year  the construction of the road was flagged-off, nothing has been done on the road, while some of their shops were demolished to give way for the road construction
They appealed to the Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Willie Obiano, to use his good office to compel the Army to commence the road project to give traders and the residents of the area a sense of belonging or have the project revoked and handed over to a more competent and credible construction company.
But hope was rekindled recently as the Corp Commander, Maj.-Gen. Edmund Obi, during a familiarization tour to 14 Field Engineering Regiment, Onitsha, Anambra State, reassured residents of Anambra State of prompt and timely completion of all civil works been handled by the army, saying that the Chief of Army Staff was aware of their challenges in meeting up with their military and civil duties; adding that the army chief had taken some actions to address them.
It would be recalled that Anambra State Government a year ago, handled some road construction and re-construction works in Onitsha to the Nigerian Army after army engineers’ feat in building a bridge in Ugbene community as well as re-construction of roads in Onitsha Military Cantonment.
“As you can see, we have more equipment to carry out the civil work given to us in Anambra and I have just directed that more engineers and hands should be made available for the civil works in Anambra.
He said, “I believe that with the added support of the logistics coming from the Chief of Army Staff; Anambra people would rejoice very soon as we have planned to finish the road construction and re-construction within record time”.
Addressing, officers and men of 14 Field Engineer Regiment, Onitsha in Anambra, the Corps Commander emphasized professionalism and obedience to superiors.

Obi noted that the army chief was also designing a means for the training and re-training of all officers and men in order to meet up with current security challenges.
The army engineer boss inspected equipment used for civil works within Anambra as well as offices and hardware of the 14 Field Engineer Regiment, Onitsha.
