ANGLICAN Bishop of the Diocese of Ngbo, Ebonyi State, Right Revd Christian Ebisike has said that it is
outrageous, that Nigerian legislators earn salaries far more than that of the American President.
He called for immediate steps to make leadership in Nigeria more of sacrifice and self-denial.
Bishop Ebisike was speaking as the Guest Preacher at the 2015 Diocese of Awka Trinity Ordination of 13 Deacons held at the Anglican Chapel of Redemption located at Permanent Site of Unizik Awka.
The Bishop “whose theme of sermon was Responsible Church Leadership” called on the new Deacons to emulate retired Archbishop Anikwenwa and now Bishop Alexander Ibezim of Awka Diocese who he said had enthroned probity and use of church resources for projects that would outlive them and benefit humanity.
In his message after ordaining, the 13 Deacons, Bishop Ibezim stated that he brought the ordination service to Unizik to contribute and be part of the on-going move by the Unizik Vice Chancellor Prof. Joseph Ahaneku to transform the University spiritually and otherwise.
Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State who was represented by his Deputy Dr. Nkem Okeke congratulated the 13 new Deacons and thanked God that the church had continued to be the light of the world and enthronement of~ golden rule and good leadership.
In his goodwill message, Unizik V.C Prof. Ahaneku in company of his wife, Dr. Gladys, Prof. Carol Arinze-Umobi and some other members of the University Management, thanked the Anglican Communion in Awka Diocese for deciding to honour and bless Unizik community- with an ordination service.
Highlights of the service included administration of oaths on the 13 new deacons by Legal Officers of the Diocese led by the Chancellor Hon Justice Sir Joseph Okeke.
