Abia State newly sworn in Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has promised Abians that his government within
his days in office would provide opportunities and give the development of Small Scale and Medium Enterprise (SME) in the state a priority.
Ikpeazu speaking at the Umuahia Township stadium during his median address to people of the state at the end of a thanks giving service to mark the commencement of his leadership as the governor of the state said that to encourage SME’s he would wear clothes sewed by Aba tailors throughout his stay in office.
He said that he would help entrepreneurs in Aba and the state get the requisite skills and exposure that would help them improve their skills and produce goods that would not only compete favourably and as well outshine their contemporaries at the global market.
The newly sworn-in Governor also promised to ensure the construction of a Gas Power Plant at Ukwa, one of the oil producing communities in the state, adding that the benefit of such a project to industrial development of the state cannot be over emphasized.
Ikpeazu who promised that his administration would be prudent in their spending due to paucity of funds as a result of the shortfall in federal allocation to the state and downfall of Oil price at the global markets, also stated that he would improve the service delivery of the civil service and as well block as much as possible all the leakages through which government funds were being siphoned.
The former General Manager of Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) disclosed that his vision for the state was to better the lives of Abians, said he would support the Judiciary, Legislative arm, traditional and religious institutions and leaders, recruit the best economic think tanks that would help him initiate good economic policies that would ensure that business and economic activities in the state thrives.
He also called on Abians living in Diaspora to bring back their funds and investments home as a means of contributing their quota to the development of the state.
According to Ikpeazu, he would also give priority to mechanized agriculture, improve the health facilities in over 700 facilities across the 17 Local Government Councils in the state, improve sporting activities as a means of discovering raw talents and also to improve on the security template of his processor, Theodore Orji even as he promised to help security agencies in the state to procure modern crime fighting equipments to ensure that insecurity in the state was addressed to the latter.
