reports that youths from Orumba North and South under the aegis of Greater
Orumba Youths yesterday called on the electorate
and political parties to
respect the Orumba North/Orumba South Accord of 2006 for the purpose of equity
and fair play.
Spokesperson of the youths/ Coordinator
of Greater Orumba Youths, Comrade Udoka Ezeibe, said that it would be unfair
for a local government or party to breach the accord since it was signed by all
and binding on all persons of Orumba North and South.
Ezeibe who announced the outcome of
their meeting with all stakeholders from the federal constituency, said that it
was in the interest of peace, fairness and justice that since there was an
accord which called for the rotation of the Orumba North/South Federal constituency
seat between the two local government areas, that it was the turn of Orumba
North to do so.
His words: "I am surprised that
some aspirants from Orumba South are angling for this position when there is an
accord reached by brothers, leaders and stakeholders from all parts of Orumba
North/ South that the position should be rotated between the two local
governments.
‘’Thus since the accord's inception
we have all kept faith and honored the accord which was supervised by Dr. Alex
Ekueme.
‘’We wonder why, these politicians
want to bring disunity amongst us and divide the ties that bind us by running
against the spirit of that accord.
‘’We therefore call on
all candidates not of Orumba North to immediately suspend their ambition
as it is ill conceived.
‘’We call on all stakeholders to
shun all inducements towards the breach of this accord.
‘’We also endorse the candidature of
Honourable Okonkwo Okom of the APC as our sole candidate for the House of
Representatives seat based on his antecedents as a member of the
House of Assembly for the period 2003-2007."
