Following the alleged stoning of Chief Victor
Umeh during the one of his campaigns in Agulu, the incumbent Senator
representing the Anambra Central Senatorial Zone and former Governor of Anambra
State, Senator Dr. Chris Nwabueze Ngige
has debunked claims that he or his
supporters in the APC had a hand in it.
Senator Ngige said
this in a statement through his media assistant, Igboeli Arinze yesterday.
In the statement,
Senator Ngige condemned the attack on Victor Umeh and Governor Willie Obiano, describing it as barbaric.
"Yesterday, I
was inundated with calls by journalists asking that we respond to the
allegations making the rounds on the Internet and some dailies that the APC was
behind the stoning of Chief Victor Umeh at a rally in Agulu. I wish to state
that at no point in time did any supporter of the APC in Anambra State attack
Chief Victor Umeh in a rally, it is barbaric and definitely not in our
character.
Let me put it like
this, we have no reason to attack Victor Umeh, our principal, Senator Ngige has
already coasted to victory by the special grace of God, so why descend so low.
We urge those
sponsoring this rumour to look elsewhere and I shall give them hints, who are
those who have engaged themselves in the pulling down of billboards? You will
remember that a female PDP senatorial aspirant and the APGA Chairman have been
engaged in a dance of shame. We urge Ndi Anambra to see and note these kind of
characters and decide whether this is the quality of representation they seek.
Senator Ngige is a
man of peace, and does not believe in violence. Rather than use our youths as
thugs , he gave them scholarships, he believes in works and if you look all
around Anambra Central, you will see his projects serving the needs of the
people. As the saying goes, an old woman does not learn new dance steps at an
old age, Ngige surely cannot begin to do otherwise."
