Anambra state government yesterday
demolished some buildings contravening stipulated laws and guidelines guiding
urban development and construction, reports www.odogwublog.com.
The builders were exceeding second
floor mandate that the houses in such areas should not be more than two floors
whereas they are building three and four floors and could not remove the extra
floors themselves until the supervisory board knocks it off.
Some other buildings were under the
Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) high tension and portends danger for
such habitants hence the board knocked them off.
The Acting General Manager Anambra
State Urban Development Board Mr Amaechina Maduakonam who supervised the
demolition warned developers to always comply with the provisions of layout
schemes and approved building plans while carrying out their development
projects.
The demolition exercise was carried
out in offending sites at Iyiagu housing estate Awka, old Onitsha Awka road
,Ikenga Ogidi ,Nnewi -Oba new road ,Oba and best Aluminum crest Omaba phase II
layout Onitsha among other areas.
Mr Amaechina warned developers to
always make good use of the services of professionals and noted that
despite the good efforts at transforming our layout for conducive living
environments, some developers still endorse violation of planning schemes and
building regulations.
He specifically reminded developers
in Omaba layout phase one and two of their government approved planning scheme
for the layout which restricted the height of buildings to two storey which is
ground floor, first and second floors only as any contravening of the law would
attract demolition of such offending buildings by ASUDEB.
Mr Amaechina encouraged developers
to visit the ASUDEB offices across the state for approval of their plans and
have guides regarding their development proposals.
