The Chairman, Onitsha Township Taxi and Semi-trucks, Mr.
Douglas Ivedezi, yesterday, commended the Anambra State Governor, Chief
Willie Obiano for banning sales of alcoholic drinks in all the motor parks in
the state.
www.odogwublog.com recalls that Governor Obiano, two weeks ago,
banned marketers and drivers from selling and drinking of alcohols in all the
Motor Parks in the state with a view to forestalling road crashes during the
festive, often occasioned by the drivers excessive intake of alcoholic drinks.
Speaking in an exclusive interview, Mr. Ivedezi lauded the policy,
positing that it entrenched sanity on the high ways, because according to him,
accidents recoded in the state within the yuletide, were at the barest minimum
compared to what was tenable at other states in the federation.
He envisaged that the policy would invigorate the mindset of people or
passengers towards the transporters and in furtherance change the lives of the
drivers for better.
Ivedezi, while imploring the state government to set up regulatory
bodies or monitoring groups to ensuring maintenance and sustainability of the
ban against alcohol among road users and parks, disclosed that none of his
workers were robbed throughout the Christmas and New Year festivity sequel to
the government’s giant strides on security of lives and properties in the
state, especially at Upper Iweka and Onitsha 'flyover'.
