In Nigeria, among the key objectives of creating
bicameral legislature at the federal level and unicameral at the state level
was to ensure qualitative representation, government stability, and to legally
checkmate the powers of the executive arm through lawmaking and oversight
function with a view to avoiding abuse of power and other undemocratic
practices.
It is was against this background that the Rt. Hon.
Princess Chinwe Nwaebili, the Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly left
her booming business and opted to serve her people, Ogbaru 2 in the hallow
chamber.
Hailed from Ogbakuba and married to an illustrious
son of Odekpe, both in Ogbaru Council Area, Rt. Hon. Nwaebili was then
elected in 2007 under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
However, performances of the state ruling All
Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) led by the erstwhile Governor Peter Obi,
lured Hon. Nwaebili’s heart to pitch interest with APGA, the party through
which she was returned to the state House of Assembly in 2011, and further
emerged as its Speaker despite that it is dominated by men of impeccable
characters.
Observers believed she has piloted the affairs of
the Assembly to the admiration of her colleagues and the entire world perhaps,
as a result of cordial relationship existing between the executive and the
legislature, evidenced in the giant strides of the past and present APGA
government.
But aside using her position to the better the
state, Speaker Nwaebili has also attracted uncountable government presence to
her constituency, Ogbaru 11.
These include the construction of
Onitsha-Atani-Ozubulu road and three bridges, Ochuche Amiyi-Umuzu road, and
Amiyi-Mputu-Ossomalla road with bridges, and Iyiowa Odekpe, even as she had
distributed over 15 thousand yam seedlings and fertilizers to rural farmers, as
well as established fishery for women cooperative societies.
Similarly, Rt. Hon. Nwaebili often time, encourage
rural farmers, who deal on petty trading among other agro-allied products along
the River Niger, by purchasing from them, and through presentations of garri
processing machines, generators, wheel barrows and other items.
In the spirit of philanthropy, she recently
celebrated her birthday with the inmates at Madonna Mercy Family during which
she showered them with food items, wrappers, cash gifts, and other items.
In recognition of education as a bedrock of every
society, Princes Nwaebili built, renovated and expanded Ogbaru LGA Secretariat
of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT); Normadic School; Ideke Secondary
School, Odekpe; Ogbaru High School, Ogbaru; the Technical School, Ossomalla,
equipping them with books, computer sets and other valuables.
Furthermore, she has touched the lives of youths in
her constituency through empowerment programmes, free distribution of
motorcycles, generating sets, sewing machines, organized inter community
football competitions and crowned winners with trophy, cash gifts, jersey and
other items.
On rural electrification, the lawmaker has provided
over fifteen 500/300 KVA Transformers to Iyiowa Odekpe, Odo Rubber, to mention
but a few towns in Ogbaru 2 state constituency.
These among her other numerous achievements may not
be unconnected to reasons she defeated Hon. Afam Ogene, the incumbent Member
representing Ogbaru federal constituency at the recent APGA House of
Representative primary for 2015 general elections.
Speaking in a recent interview, the Chairman,
Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), Chief Nzemeka Olisa
opined that Nwaebili is a leader of great substance and a good commodity for
export.
While her Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Fidelis
Nwakwesili posited that Nwaebili would be more positioned to attract numerous
federal presence to her people and Anambra state entirely if she eventually
emerged victorious in the forthcoming election.
