reports that the party tagged 2014 Father Christmas Party was organized by the
foundation for the less privileged ones. It served also as an opportunity to
encourage the children and give them a sense of belonging.
The foundation was founded 10 years ago by late Mr. and Mrs. S.O.Nwankwo
to support and help the poor and the needy particularly the less privileged
children in Ajalli, Orumba North local government area of Anambra State. The
foundation came about after the founder saw the rapid growth of poverty among
its citizens and decided to contribute his quota every Christmas eve.
Mr. and Mrs. Christiana N Awodein ( Nee Nwankwo), serves as the Director
General of Late Mr. and Mrs. S.O. Nwankwo foundation. The feast was in
conjunction with Sir Paul-Mary Onyejeli, the coordinator of the foundation and
Proprietor of Next Model International Nursery and Primary School, Ajalli.
Onyejeli emphasized that the less
privileged in Nigeria society were not properly taken care of because the
country is faced with corrupt leadership, inefficiency, devoid of good
governance, transparency and service for the good of the downtrodden.
Onyejeli said, "one of the
problems affecting Nigeria today is that some of the people that needed help
and assistance of government were not well taken care of. But what we see rather
is the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer every day. Government
should be able to stand up to its responsibilities by empowering the poor and
the needy through the provision of scholarships education, skills acquisition
and job creation to help reduce crime of any kind in the society".
He also stressed the need for the creation of ministry of children's'
welfare that would superintend, and work out the modality and enforce its
constitutional provisions to the benefit of all concerned set of people in
Nigeria society adding that if not, work and responsibilities would not be
carried out justly.
In his words," Nigeria government should
create a ministry that will man the affairs of the less privilege children in
our society so that all funds being mapped out for use will directly reach and
be used according to its purpose without a story or any manipulation or
diversion".
