Nigerian football is set to be
thrown into another round of crisis following the failure of the Nigeria Football
Federation (NFF) electoral appeals committee to come out with one voice in its
verdict.
The committee which met yesterday in
Abuja came up with decisions that were surprisingly not endorsed by the
chairman Barrister Okey Ajunwa.
While the committee members upheld
the election of Pinnick Amaju and the other board members, Okey Ajunwa, who is
the chairman of the body sang a different tone as he failed to sign the
decisions made available to the media by the NFF.
In fact the NFF in a release made
available to the media yesterday stated that the appeals committee boss may
come up with a dissenting minority report, which it insisted would be a
nullity.
The NFF statement stated in part:
“All the members except the chairman upheld the elections…and also maintained
that the appellant (Barrister Iyke Igbokwe) has no locus standi to challenge
the entire election. In conclusion, the NFF 2014 elective congress held in
Warri on Tuesday 30th September 2014 is hereby upheld in its entirety. The
undersigned members of the NFF 2014 electoral appeals committee have therefore
conveyed their findings and decisions to the NFF secretariat for onward
transmission to the relevant authorities. This statement is submitted having in
mind that the chairman (Okey Ajunwa) may come up with a dissenting minority
opinion.”
