‘Return of Champions’ lights up Awka on Boxing Day




As Nigerians clamor for the revival of boxing in the Country, Anambra State Governor, Dr. Willie Obiano has accepted to host the first world boxing title fight in Nigeria in recent years.

The boxing extravaganza will be the biggest boxing event in the Country in recent years and will hold at the Dr Alex Ekwueme square in Awka, the Anambra State Capital on Boxing day, December 26.
The six bouts promotion will see some top Nigerian professional boxers based abroad returning home to showcase their talents to Nigerians.
The event promoted by Emmaco Sports Limited and tagged ‘Retrun of Champions’ will see current WBO international Light middle weight champion, King Da­vidson Emenogu fighting for the WBF interim middle weight world title. Current WABU light heavyweight champion, Jude Illo will vie for the WBF int’l light heavyweight title. Current WBF welter weight champi­on, Gifted Cole will be going for the vacant WBA PAN Africa middle weight title.
The night will also see current Common Wealth super Middle weight champion, Isaac Ekpo defending his title.
All the listed fighters have all signed on for the pro­motion. Their Foreign opponents will be announced next week during a press conference in Awka.
