PDP CONGRESS: TAN CAUTIONS AGAINST POLITICS OF BITTERNESS, RANCOR

Following the reported cases of violence and protests in some states during and after weekend's ward delegates' congresses of the People's Democratic Party PDP held across the nation weekend, a non-governmental advocacy group, the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) has called on politicians across the country to endeavor to play by the rules and avoid politics of bitterness capable of generating crisis and rancour.

TAN, which made the call in a statement issued by its director of Public Communications/Strategy and made available to journalists nationwide by the state Coordinators yesterday, observed with dismay that some politicians appear so desperate in their drive to occupy political positions by all means contrary to the provisions of the constitution of their party and the rule of Laws of the country using unlawful, undemocratic, uncivilized and unsocial means in pursuit their ambitions.

According to the statement, the NGO frowns in condemnation of the attitude of the politicians who choose to throw caution to the wind should be made to pursue acceptable means of campaign through publicity, charity works and persuasion to get closer to the people in pursuit of their political ambitions.

Nigerians, the statement added, were very understanding and tolerant people which Dr Udenta admitted encouraged the massive transformation in the various sectors of governance by President Goodluck Jonathan led administration.

"we don't want any violence as far as this country is concerned", the statement continued, adding "the good people of this country are looking up to the 2015 general election with so much hopes that they will use the opportunity to elect committed leaders to pilot affairs for the next four years. Therefore we don't need distractions, the election is top national priority and we must support the efforts of President Jonathan toward the success of the elections"

The statement however commended some states chapters of the PDP where the ward congresses were peaceful.
