Federal Polytechnic Oko ASUP, Students Mourn Death of Colleague

Members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) Okopoly chapter and Students of the Federal Polytechnic Oko, Anambra state, are presently in grief and brimming with emotion over a tragic loss that befell them.

They are mourning the death of a colleague and Lecturer in the department of Mass Communication, Late Lady Adimekwe Stella , who died after a brief illness.

During a memorial procession held for the late Stella, the students and some ASUP members, who were all dressed in their black mourning attire, wept all through as they walked from the polytechnic’s main gate to different parts of the institution, carrying the picture of their departed colleague.

Speaking on behalf of Asup members, the Chairman of the Oko Chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, ASUP, Dr Onyeka Uwakwe said the late Stella was an active member of Asup having served in different capacity, that,“her exit is an earthly loss, hence we cry, but is a heavenly again. Many are saying that it was untimely but we were comforted because it is not necessarily how long we lived on earth that counts, but the impact we made in life. Stella made an impact as a lecturer by doing what she knew very well. We mourn her exit and did not expect it. She is one of our best, very hardworking and respectful. It was a big disappointment to the entire family and indeed my department (Mass Communication). Adding,"may the merciful Lord have mercy on you for we shall surely meet again on the resurrection morning at the sound of the trumpet".

The President French Club Okopoly, Chukwudumeje Philip, Nd2 Mass Communication, constance described the death of Miss Stella as very unfortunate, adding that he wept openly like a baby the day she got the news. He said:“Honestly I wept, I felt so bad. So when I heard that she was dead, it was very shocking. Stella was too good to die but we can’t question God on why she died. We just give God praise for everything. This is a lecturer I knew so well, very friendly and very lively. Everybody knew her, she was very nice to everybody in our class and most especially we in the French Club. So it is very unfortunate and may her soul rest in perfect peace, Amen."

Another student, Ogochukwu Ikedi an ND1 student of Mass Communication, described Stella's death as an insurgency that came on a vibrant young Lady, adding that, “Stella's death is a grievous development, we are mourning. Death is an insurgency and we are very sorry with the way Stella has fallen into the insurgency of death. Students here are touched by it, including lecturers of the institution because he was a good lecturer”.

The remains of Lady Stella have been committed to earth, at her home town, Amaeze-Ogii in Okigwe local government area of Imo State.
