The
Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions
(NASU) in Polytechnics has urged the Federal Government to meet its
six-point demands in order to restore normalcy in polytechnics
nationwide.
This was contained in a two-page document issued to newsmen by NASU branch in Federal Polytechnic, Oko in Anambra on Tuesday.
The
statement was jointly signed by Chief Ikechukwu Ezenwankwo and Comrade
Godfrey Nwankwo, who are the branch Chairman and Secretary respectively.
It
said that the government through the ministry of education should
ensure the payment of the arrears of the CONTISS 15 Migration to NASU
members; adding that it had had an accrued arrears from January 2009.
The
statement also urged the government to ensure that there was adequate
budgetary provision in the 2014 budget for the continued implementation
of the CONTISS 15 Migration to its members.
According
to the statement, the current implementation of CONTISS 15 through the
Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of polytechnics was not acceptable
by the union any longer.
``Thirdly,
the union appeals to the honourable minister that the injustice of
exclusion of NASU from the membership of the Needs Assessment Committee
of Public Polytechnics is addressed without further delay in the
interest of justice and equity.
``The
union calls on the honourable minister to urgently constitute a
committee to review the 2010 FGN/NASU Agreement for the polytechnic
sector; which has fallen due for review since July, 2012.
``The
union calls on the honourable minister to ensure improved funding of
the polytechnics if the country is to attain the much needed
technological development,’’ it said.
Finally,
it said that the union would reject any attempt being made to make the
polytechnics key into the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information
System (IPPIS); since universities are yet to key into the system.
The already three months old indefinite strike action of NASU started on Nov. 4, 2013.
