Minister Directs UBEC To Release All Anambra Money

Supervising Minister of Education, Barr  Ezenwo Nyesom  Wike,   has directed the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), to release all money belonging to Anambra State that is still with the Commission.

Wike said that Anambra was one State where the spending of UBEC funds was satisfactorily, and called on other Governors to emulate Governor Peter Obi in investing in education.

A statement from the office of the Media Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Valentine Obienyem said Nwike gave the directives during his visit to Anambra State, where he joined Gov. Peter Obi to flag-off of the distribution of 25,000 computers, 450  50 KVA generators and buses to schools in Anambra State.

He informed that the Federal Government would replicate what Obi is doing in Anambra State in all the unity schools in the country and that each time he visited Anambra State that he had always observed good governance in action.

Nwike attributed the success of Anambra to Gov. Peter Obi, on his relating very well with the Federal Government and all stakeholders in the State.

“Each time I attend Obi’s events, I see the quality of attendance. The Igwes are always there because of his humility and respect for them. The town leaders and women leader are always there because they know what the Governor is doing. You do notice that unlike in other States, there are no rented crowd. It is not a question of paid crowd”, Nwike said.

In a related development, the Executive Secretary of UBEC,  Dr. Suleman Dikko expressed surprise at the high level of transformation in  various schools in Anambra  State which  he noted was contrary to information and insinuation peddled in some quarters.

He was speaking during the presentation by Gov. Obi of the cheque of N525M to all the public and mission  secondary schools in the State for the provision of sick bays in their  schools.
Dr. Dikko said Governor Obi’s initiative of sending funds directly to schools for projects should be emulated by other States to achieve maximum result as the schools know what they want and were in a better position to apply the funds.  He assured that the State counterpart contribution with the commission would be released immediately and commended the Governor for being responsive to needs and aspirations of the people.
