Anambra Governorship Tribunal Recieves 4 Petitions Against Willie Obiano



                               
The governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Awka has received four petitions challenging the victory of Dr Willie Obiano of APGA in the Anambra governorship election held on Nov. 16, 2013.


At the resumed sitting of the tribunal led by Justice Ishaq Bello on Tuesday in Awka, the tribunal received petitions filed by Dr Chike Obidigbo against Obiano and two others, Sen. Chris Ngige against INEC, Obiano, APGA and ACD; PDP versus INEC and 25 others as well as Mr Tony Nwoye versus INEC and 25 others.

In the petition filed by Sen. Ngige against INEC, Obiano, APGA and ACD,Counsel to Ngige, Mr Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN), said that the petitioner had withdrawn his petition against ACD.
“We have also filed a motion on notice asking the tribunal to direct all preliminary points of law or objection to be taken along with the final addresses of parties.”
Those who announced appearances were Mr Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), Arthur Obi-Okafor (SAN) and Mr G.N. Uwechue (SAN) representing INEC while Mr Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN) announced his appearance for Obiano.
APGA was represented by Mr Patrick Ikweto (SAN) and Mr Osita Nnadi (SAN), Mr Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN) and Mr Emeka Ngige (SAN) appeared for APC while Prof. F.C. Dike (SAN), represented Obidgbo.
Other lawyers who announced their appearances were Chief A.O. Ajana (SAN) for PDP while Mr Emmanuel Ukala (SAN) represented Mr Tony Nwoye.
In his remarks, the Tribunal Chairman, Justice Ishaq Bello, commended the lawyers for their cooperation and adjourned the continuation of pre-trial conference to Feb. 11.
“By the next sitting, we will allow room for more processes to be filed, while the possibility of consolidating all motions will be looked into, to allow for expeditious proceedings,’’ Bello said.
All the counsels present said that they had filled their pre-hearing information forms as well as motions for extension of time to file other processes.
The respondents’ counsels mostly announced that they had filed motions seeking to strike out either some paragraphs of the petitions or the entire petitions for lack of competence.
