Gov. Obi said he refused the participation of Anambra Pilgrims in the 2013 pilgrimage to drive home the need that South-East pilgrims should take off from Enugu rather than going to Abuja or Lagos as used to be the case.

He said he was delighted that 2014 pilgrims were taking off from Akanu-Ibiam airport. He said that the unusually number of pilgrims this year Seven Hundred and Twenty (720)  was because those that would have gone last year had joined those going this year. He made all these remarks yesterday while addressing intending pilgrims at the Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka.

Obi who enjoined intending pilgrims to be worthy Ambassadors of the State, urged them to pray  for peace, unity and progress of the State, but the country at large. He also urged prayers  for leaders of  Nigeria, especially the incoming Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano for God's wisdom to pilot affairs of the State.

The South-East Zonal Director of the Nigerian Christians  Pilgrims Commission, Mr. Frank Chukwura who described Gov. Obi as the best Governor in the country said Anambra Etate was sponsoring the highest number of pilgrims and higher than the pilgrims from the four South-East States put together.

In his address, the Chairman of the State Pilgrims Board, Dr. Levi Muonanu said the workshop was to reorientate and enlighten the intending pilgrims on the coming journey to Isreal and thanked Gov. Obi for making this year's pilgrimage a reality. He reminded the intending pilgrims that pilgrimage was an opportunity for moral and spiritual rejuvenation for total transformation.

In their separate reactions, two intending pilgrims, Igwe Christopher Idigo of Agulueri and Mr. Chime  Sibeudu while thanking the Governor for giving them the opportunity to travel, assuring that they would promote the  good image of the State.
