Obi’s Wife Distributes 200,000 Cancer Self Examination Kits To Rural Women

                                                   

Wife of the Anambra State Governor, Mrs. Margret Peter-Obi yesterday flagged off the distribution of over 200,000 cancer self examination kits to the rural women from the 21 local government of Anambra State.

 

Obi’s wife performed the ceremony at Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, during the postponed 2013 International Rural Women’s Day celebration. The event witnessed bounties to triplets and multiple births.

 

    The theme of celebration was, “Elimination and Prevention Of all Forms Of Violence Against Women And Girls’’.

 

Obi’s wife represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Mrs Chinwe Sibeudu enjoined Anambra Women to love themselves and avoid all kinds of maltreatment within their environment.

 

She lamented the number of death from cancer related ailments hence women should be encouraged to check at least their breast for cancer because earlier detection will reduce the financial , emotional and psychological effects.

She acknowledged the contributions of women in nation building but encouraged them to fight on until the violence against women is eliminated in Nigeria and in the world. She strongly condemned violence against women, calling for change of heart.

 

    Her words: “my sisters, let me remind all of us, that we are in a race and heaven is our target. So, I encourage you to dissect from eliminating and preventing all forms of violence against women and our girls. Therefore, fight the good fight of faith and finish your course, for you will discover that the joy of a finished work surpasses the rigors of the work itself”.

 

    In her address, Commissioner for Women’s Affairs and Social Development, Lady Henrietta Agbata commended the Governor’s wife, Mrs Margret Obi and her husband, Gov Obi for empowering the women folk in the areas of skills acquisition, education, agriculture and various other programmes to make life more meaningful to women and children” adding that Mrs Obi has repositioned women in the state in the area of poverty, hunger and disease eradication.
