Oraifite community,
Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State yesterday said it honoured some
of its illustrious who have contributed positively towards the development of
the community as a means to motivate others especially young ones on the need
to be selfless.
They honoured men and
women who have attained longevity from various villages in Oraifite.
Those honoured were Chairman and CEO of Chrome Oil Limited, Chief Emeka Offor, Sir Sunny
Igboanuzue, the President of Oraifite Improvement Union, Lagos Branch, Hon. Sir
Azuka Okwuosa, a former commissioner for works in Anambra State and Sir Cyprian
Nwachukwu an electrical engineer among others.
Receiving the award, Sir
Sunny Nwachukwu, President of Oraifite Improvement Union, Lagos Branch said he
was delighted that his contributions to the development of the community have
been recognized by his own people despite the
activities of a group he described as “Anaedo ocean” whose main objective he
said was to destabilize the town by engaging in a campaign of calumny against
some illustrious sons of Oraifite through the internet social network.
He described the group
as faceless individuals who do not see anything good about the community and
promised to continue to contribute his quota for the development of his town.
Nwachukwu who is Chairman
Technical Committee on National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) highlighted
some of the benefits derivable from the recent privatization in the nation’s
power sector, adding that the community had been considered to benefit
immensely from the power reforms programme of the Federal Government.
In a remark the
President-General, Oraifite Improvement Union (OIU), Dr. Jude A. Okolo
expressed delight in the successful outcome of the event, stressing that the
community under the auspices of Oraifite Improvement Union decided to honour
their illustrious sons in recognition of their contributions to the development
of the community.
Present at the occasion
was the Traditional ruler of the town, Igwe Dr.Udoji prayed for a sustained peace and progress in the
town.
Meanwhile, the APGA campaign train led by
Gov. Peter Obi and Sir Victor Umeh are going to all the local Governments Areas
in the State on campaign.
