Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members in Dunukofia
local government area of Anambra state are afraid of the All Progressives
Congress (APC) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in this Saturday’s
local government elections.
The party members were seen discussing that unless
their pillar and oil magnet , Prince Arthur Eze indicates interest in the
election that the opposition APC and ruling APGA will walk away with the Chairmanship
and counsellorship slots in the council area.
Reports had it that the Anambra Chairmanship
election slated for Saturday 11th January is causing a row between the All Progressives
Grand Alliance (APGA) and the People Democratic Party (PDP) with the latter accusing
the former of plans to rig the election by any means possible.
According to a close ally to Prince Arthur Eze , a
major PDP Chieftain and oil magnet who did not want to be named, there were frightening
signals from the area , which point towards ‘’ a theatre of war rather than an
atmosphere of a free and fair contest’’.
His words,’’ we now have credible information of
plans hatched by the APGA who are currently in power at the state local
governments in Anambra in order to rig the election.
‘’The PDP lost the Governorship seat to APGA in
Anambra state though they won in Dunukofia local government where the Great
Iroko of PDP comes from. It seems that APGA now have instructions from the
highest levels of their party to pursue a do or die especially PDP.
According to him, plans have been made by the APGA
leaders to use the ANSIEC as a tool for achieving this their illicit goal, ‘’
we believe that aside from the above , the ANSIEC Acting Chairman , Mr
Sylvester Okonkwo ia not unaware of the fragile security situation prevailing
in many local government areas where most prominent PDP Chieftains cannot
afford to lose their own local government areas to APGA. We have local governments like Dunukofia
where the Great Iroko of PDP Prince Arthur Eze is from, we have other local
governments like Nnewi- North and South, Oyi, Njikoka , Aguata and Idemmili North and South.
The big question is ,’’if APGA is planning to win
all the local governments by rigging the
election ,will it still affect the local government Dunukofia where the Great
Iroko of PDP is from? Will he still concede to APGA after losing the state to
them? What is he going to tell his
ancestors if such a thing happens? Can this be seen as encouraging anti-partism
since no one will ever believe that such a thing can happen?
He therefore appealed to the ANSIEC Acting Chairman , Mr
Slvester Okonkwo to take personal interest in the election so as to ensure that
it is free , fair and credible.
But reacting on the fears around the
rumour at mobilization visit at Ojoto, Idemmili South local government area, Governor
Peter Obi says the electorate will determine winners of the forth coming Local
Government election in the State ahead of the Saturday’s election.
Governor Obi said the election would be
transparent, free, fair and credible so that people’s choice would determine
the eventual winners. He enjoined APGA faithful to sustain effective and
massive mobilization of the people for the polls.
The Governor reaffirmed that APGA
government would continue equitable distribution of democracy dividends across
the State.
Speaking, the National Chairman of the
party, Sir Victor Umeh said that APGA was confidence of victory because the
APGA led Governemnt in the State had done so well for the people of the State.
The wife of the Governor, Mrs. Margaret
Peter Obi charged women of the area to participate actively and vote for APGA.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for
Information, Chief Joe Martins Uzodike urged the people of the area to give
APGA total support at the polls to reciprocate Governor Obi’s kind disposition
that engendered completion of many projects in various sectors.
The Transition Committee Chairmen, Idemili
South, Mr. Eugene Ezekwem observed that the area benefited from all development
projects of the Governor and had maintained high tempo of work even at tail end
of his tenure.
Meanwhile, the APGA campaign train led by
Gov. Peter Obi and Sir Victor Umeh are going to all the local Governments Areas
in the State on campaign.
