reports that operatives of the Counter Terrorism Unit of the Imo State Police
command yesterday intercepted a truck laden with eight bags of suspected Indian
hemp valued at about N16million.
Imo Police boss, Dasuki Galadanchi told newsmen that the unit acting on a tip off, intercepted the truck at about 3am on Tuesday.
According to him, the truck had a hidden upper roof
wherein the hemp was hidden, while the empty bottles of stout visibly seen,
made it seem like they were conveying drinks.
Galadanchi said it took the expertise of the
operatives led by the unit commander, Talba Usman to arrest the vehicle,
unfortunately the suspects escaped upon discovery of the hemp.
Galadanchi urged the perpetrators to willingly submit
themselves to the police, warning that operators of the vehicle with
registration numbers KPP339XD Anambra State will be caught using sophisticated
gadgets.
According to him, by the interception of the truck,
many families have been saved from would-be junkies who would have consumed the
hemp.
A police source who pleaded anonymity told that each
bag is valued N2million in the streets adding that the eight bags is valued at
N16million.
