reports that the Ihembosi portion of the old Onitsha-Nnewi-Okija road has been
cut off by erosion caused by poor drainage channels necessitating unnecessary flood.
This is
coming as the member representing Nnewi North/South and Ekwusigo in the
National Assembly, Hon Chris Emeka Azubuogu and member representing Ekwusigo in
the State House of Assembly , Mr Onyebuchi Offor may be facing a recall from
their constituents for allowing the road to cut off without doing anything.
But while Offor has prevailed on the House to pass a
resolution urging Governor Willie Obiano to direct the Ministry of Works to
urgently rehabilitate the road, Azubuogu is yet to be heard on that.
The resolution which was sponsored as a matter of
urgent public importance by the Minority Leader and Member representing
Ekwusigo Constituency, Mr. Onyebuchi Offor was passed during it's plenary.
According to Mr. Offor, the condition of the road
worsened as a result of a gully erosion that occurred at Ihembosi portion of
the area.
He emphasized that motorists, particularly those who
drive at night could fall into it, if urgent steps are not taken to salvage the
situation.
On his part, the Deputy Majority Leader, Chief Paschal
Agbodike appealed to the concerned Ministry to rise to the occasion by
rehabilitating the road to alleviate the sufferings of the road users, just as
the Speaker, Barrister Rita Maduagwu lent credence to the motion and called for
a voice vote.
