The State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists,
NUJ, says it will set up a trust fund to ensure quality education of the
children of their fallen members.
The Chairman of the Council Comrade Emma Ifesinachi
disclosed this during the Monthly Congress of the union at Godwin Ezemo
International Press Centre Awka.
The Union has presented cheques to some families who
lost their husbands in active duty.
Comrade Ifesinachi stated that the names of trustee
members of the fund will be announced in the next congress and expressed the
hope that the decision taken would yield positive and sustainable results.
He listed clinic, excursion, road show, visit to
Community Children’s home, novelty football match, lectures and thanksgiving as
events that will feature in the 2018 Press Week of the union.
The Secretary of the Union, Mr. Emma Uduagha, charged
journalists to always perform their legitimate duties and participate actively
in the development of the union.
He announced that the family of late Leonard Akaolisa
had written an appreciation letter to the Council, for its support and
contributions towards ensuring a successful burial rites for their fallen
colleague praying God to bless them abundantly.
