reports that there is tension in Obosi, Idemili North Local
Government Area, Anambra state, over the sudden
disappearance of arrested three
suspected armed robbers in Army uniform.
The suspects
were said to have been arrested by
a local vigilante group at Little Wood Estate, Obosi,
while getting
ready to strike.
Consequently, the state Commissioner of Police, CP,
Garba Umar, is
said to have directed for immediate investigation of
the matter.
The vigilante group, on apprehending the suspects, informed
the Obosi Youth Vanguard, a youth
organization established to help rid the community of
criminals, Led
by its President, Comrade Gil Oluchukwu Anyaoku, to
come and pick the
suspects for onward transfer to the Police.
Two of the suspects, Olisa Dominic,18 years and Friday
Nwali, 19
years, are from Ebonyi state while Nwanosike Isaac is
from Imo state.
Fielding questions from newsmen, Comrade Anyaoku stated that, "on the
fateful day being 17th of August, 2018, I was at my
work place when I
received a phone call
from somebody at Little Wood Estate, that
Vigilante group there apprehended three criminals on
Army uniform,
about to rob. I told him that I could not make it
based on the nature
of my work.
I had to call my Vice, Chimezie Ononwu, who came and
picked the
suspects to the community town hall in readiness for
transfer to the
Ogidi Area Command because we do not have confidence
in the Obosi
police personnel especially the Divisional Police
Officer, DPO, Mr
Usman Ibrahim".
According to Anyaoku as the suspects were kept at the
hall waiting for
the handover to the Ogidi Police Area Command, the
Police from Obosi
led by one Overt, a sergeant, with some boys came and
took the
suspects to Obosi Police Station and since then we
have not known
their where-about.
It is the Obosi Police that will tell the where-about
of the suspects.
We are a non violent group and do not want to have any
misunderstanding with the police and that was why we
handed over the
suspects to them.
It is left for the Police at Obosi to tell the
people, the public and
the world the where-about of the Army uniformed three suspects
arrested with cutlasses, they have to produce the
suspects", he vowed.
In his reaction, Dan Igbokwubili, the President
General of
the community, stated that, "the sudden
disappearance of the arrested
suspects is a calculated attempt and conspiracy by the
DPO and other
bigwigs in the community to avert justice.
He said that "they use non indigenes to
perpetuate crime in the
community and in this case we are not going to rest
until the suspects
are brought to face justice."
Contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer,
PPRO, Mr Haruna
Mohammed said the DPO of Obosi when contacted denied
Knowledge of the arrest,
However, on further contact to the State Commissioner
of Police, Mr
Garba Umar, he said that he has directed for immediate
investigation on the matter.
