Progressive Union, Orumba South local government area of Anambra state
has asked the authorities of the Federal College of Education, Technical
Umunze to consider catchment area in its appointments and admissions
policy.
President
General, Umunze Progressive Union, Mr John Akanyeonu made the appeal
when he led the executive committee of the union to pay a courtesy call
on the newly appointed Provost of the Federal College of Education
(Technical), Umunze, Dr Mrs Theresa Okoli.
His
words: ``We have come to congratulate you on your deserved appointment
and to present to you the issue of community benefits, especially in the
area of employment slots, and transparent distribution of opportunity
among communities within the Local Government Area.
According
to him, the courtesy call has been as a result of the harmonious
relationship existing between the town and your college.
Mr
Akanyeonu, said the union would at all times give maximum support to
the college in order to further the smooth relationship between the
community and the college.
He,
however, restated that the town would no longer condone activities of
bad eggs either from the town or the school who work to derail the
progress of the system.
Responding,
the provost, Dr Mrs Okoli thanked the entire members of the union and
assured them of peaceful tenure that would attract positive development
to the college.
Mrs
Okoli pointed out that the institution could not survive in isolation of
the host community, saying that the college would strive to maintain
cordial relationship with the community.
She commended the PG for his wisdom and courage in handling issues and challenges facing the community.
The
provost, then, thanked the Traditional Ruler of Umunze, Igwe Promise
Eze, who had been supporting the institution, especially in the area of
security.
She, however,
appealed to the union to boost security, check students living within
their community as well as control activities of the `bad eggs’ living
among them.
