Obi of Otolo and Igwe of Nnewi, Anambra state, Igwe Kenneth Orizu
(III), has called for a total eradication of illiteracy in his domain.
Igwe Orizu was speaking during a stakeholders meeting for Adult and Non formal education at Nnewi North local government area.
Igwe
Orizu commended the agency for their determination to place adult
literacy in Anambra at a special height in the country and urged all who
are still deficient to enrol in the program.
His
words: ``I urge the stakeholders to join the trend and ensure that
every illiterate and semi-illiterate in Nnewi North promptly enrols in
the present system, which will help to stamp out illiteracy in
communities’’.
Chairman,
Nnewi North LG, Chukwudi Orizu, represented by his deputy, Hon Pius
Onwuka, admonished the stakeholders to toe the line of the state Agency
for Mass Literacy to ensure illiteracy is eliminated.
Present
at the event are Acting Executive Secretary and Director, Agency for
Mass Literacy Adult and Non-formal Education, Mr Donatus Nwosu
,Supervisor for Education Nnewi North, Mr Uzo Agbodikke, Head of LG
Admin, Nnewi North, Mr Onyedibeyamma Ubokwu, Women leader APGA, Nnewi
North, and Mrs Fecilia Achusim among others.
In
his remarks, the Acting Executive Secretary and Director, Agency for
Mass Literacy Adult and Non-formal Education, Mr Donatus Nwosu, said the
agency has resolved to stamp out illiteracy in communities within the
LGA in particular as the industrial hub of the state and the state at
large.
He said they met to proffer solutions to problems of illiteracy in the state.
His
words: ``We are here to proffer solutions to the best ways to
strengthen adult education in this community, in other to meet the
supposed standards by reducing illiteracy to its barest minimum’’.
``The
campaign will be driven by the current National policy on adult
education, where all major stakeholders will actively participate in
massive sensitisation and mobilisation of adult and youth literacy in
various communities’’.
Nwosu praised Governor Willie Obiano for providing adult literacy the deserved attention.
``Now
we experience prompt payment of facilitators’ stipends, free tuition
and provision of wide range of instructional materials provided by
Government,’’ he said.
He
lauded the stakeholders in Nnewi North adult education for their
outstanding performance, emphasising that they deserve special
commendation for setting new pace in adult literacy.
``Adult
and Non-formal Education in Nnewi North has maintained leading
position, which has contributed to winning of numerous awards from
national and international organisations in the past.
``The present meeting with all that matters in adult literacy will further shoot them ahead.’’
