Imo state Commissioner of Police, Dasuki Galadanchi yesterday paraded
34 persons for various offenses ranging rape; kidnapping; murder; armed
robbery; fraud; theft; and conspiracy.
According
to him, there has been a reduction in crime as against the notion
expressed by residents saying "I know because I have the indices. I know
reported crime is reducing".
He said the
community policing modus adopted by the Inspector General of Police,
Ibrahim Idris is working in Imo State, as it is yielding results.
This
is even as he charged residents to report every crime witnessed saying "
please, if you see something, please say something".
According to him, 10 suspects were arrested for armed robberies; 14 persons for kidnapping and two persons for fraud.
Galadanchi
said "11 kidnap victims were rescued; four vehicles recovered; three
locally made guns; one pump action gun; and 19 ammunition were
recovered".
Speaking some kidnap suspects,
David Ndubuisi, 24 years who hails from Umuaga Nguru in Ngor Okpala
local government area of Imo state; Chinonso Akabisi 26 years from
Isiala Mbano council area; and Christian Chukwuka,24 years from Oguta
council said they specialized in the abduction, rape and murder, and
robbery of female victims.
They admitted
their involvement in the kidnap of late Cynthia Dike, a staff of Christ
the King Secondary School at Obike in Ngor Okpala, who they raped and
later murdered.
According to the Police boss,
one motorcycle, two knives ,one purse and different hand bags and
handsets belonging to their victims were recovered as exhibits.
Also
paraded were 18 years old Chigaemezu Ekpem, and 22 years old Daniel
Uzoka, arrested by the operatives of the command for armed robbery.
According
to the police boss "the suspects were nabbed by the operatives of the
command while on a stop and search along port Harcourt/Owerri
expressway.
They intercepted the two suspects
with a motorcycle. On searching them, a locally made double pipe pistol
with one cartridge was recovered concealed in a polythene bag. On
interrogation, suspects confessed to have gotten exhibits from an
uncompleted building .The scene was visited while investigation is still
in progress".
Meanwhile, the suspects will soon be arraigned in court for their various offenses.
