www.odogwublog.com reports that worried by the huge number of uncollected Permanent Voters Card (PVC) in Imo State, hundreds of youths under the aegis Imo Renewal Youth Movement have staged a peaceful rally to draw attention to the issue.
This is even as they called for the support for a youth to succeed Governor Rochas Okorocha in 2019.
According
to them, the quantum number of uncollected PVCs still at the
Independent National Electoral Commission's office in Owerri, was
"affecting the political development of the state".
Led
by their Imo State coordinator, Kingsley Chukwu, the youths said they
will no longer watch old politicians ruin the State and by extension,
their future.
Chukwu
advocated that the best way for the youths to takeover the reins of
government in the state was to collect their PVCs so as to became active
stakeholders during the next election.
The
Imo Renewal Youth Movement called on Hon Tony Nwulu, currently
representing Oshodi/Isolo federal constituency of Lagos at the House of
Representatives to rescue the State.
Nwulu, who
hails from Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo state, is the
sponsor of the popular "Not Too Young To Run" bill which seeks to
drastically reduce the age limit in contesting elections in Nigeria.
The
youths commended Nwulu for the bill which they said has been passed on
the floor of the National Assembly and state Houses of Assembly and is
currently awaiting Presidential assent and has gained numerous local and
international endorsements including the United Nations.
Chukwu
said "Hon Nwulu has continued to work tirelessly at pursuing projects
that would uplift the majority of the Nigerian Youths. It is noteworthy
to point out that the not too young to run bill is the first bill that
was laid on the United Nation General Assembly ECOWAS Parliament and the
African Union", the youth coordinator said.
