Tension in Abia as hoodlums kill only son, father shot as car snatchers raid home

www.odogwublog.com reports that hoodlums suspected to be car snatchers raided a family of seven ( names withheld), shot dead the only son and made away with a Lexus Jeep belonging to the family.

The incident according to family source occurred around 7: 00 p.m on Easter Sunday.

According to the source, the deceased sister who went on errand in the jeep  was driving back to the family house located at  79 Igbere Street Umuahia when suddenly two gun men who had allegedly been hanging around the vicinity showed up and ordered her out of the car.

She was said to have also surrendered the car key to the robbers as demanded by them when the deceased who was alerted by another family member in the car rushed out to see what was happening.

On sighting the deceased, the hoodlums shot him four times in the chest region according to our source, and drove off in the jeep leaving him in the pool of his blood.

" My brother was eating when he heard robbers wanted to snatch the car from my sister and he rushed out to see things for himself but was immediately shot four times by the criminals. We don't know whether they are thieves or hired assassins", the source lamented.

The father who had also rushed out together with the son was hit by bullet in his thigh region and taken to an undisclosed hospital where doctors are now battling to save his life.

When our correspondent visited the scene yesterday, stain of blood was still seen on the road where the deceased laid when he was shot.

The family had been thrown into turmoil over the incident which had thrown residents into panic. The family source also said the matter had been reported to the police.

However, when contacted the Police Public Relations Officer , Mr. Geoffrey Ogbonna said he was yet to be briefed on the incident.

Only three weeks ago, suspected car snatchers had also allegedly shot a man dead at Lagos Street Umuahia after he allegedly resisted attempt to surrender his car key to them.

Reports said the criminals could however not succeed in removing the car as it was said to be on security lock.
