Don Waney's gang have not infiltrated Imo State
www.odogwublog.com reports that the Imo State Police Command yesterday said members of late Don Waney's gang have not infiltrated the State, saying people residing around the riverine areas should go about their lawful business without fear and intimidation.
Ezike gave the assurance while flagging off Operation Show of Force to fish out kidnappers, armed robbers, and other wanted criminals.
According
to him, intelligence reports show that Waney's death has brought calm
around the riverine areas, even as he debunked fears that the gang
members have relocated to Imo State, saying his men are on 24 hours
patrol throughout the State, to maintain law and order.
Ezike who rolled out over 40 vehicles into the state with an ambulance with medical personnel to offer immediate medical response, said
the presence of the force team will assure the people of Police
presence adding that it will also signal criminals to stay away.
He
charged the personnel attached to the vehicles to discharge their
duties with the utmost sense of respect for peoples rights, devoid of
manhandling, rough driving, and assault, adding that they must make
themselves very visible in every community.
In
a related development, the Imo State Controller of Immigration, Andrew
Isa Manga has appealed to the Police command to inform its personnel
attached to foreigners not to obstruct their duties when trying to
ascertain if their stay is authorized.
Manga
lamented that many Police personnel obstruct their duties, saying the
Police command should sensitize its men on the issue.
"We
don't want clashes with any of your men attached to any VIP foreigner,
they should allow us to do our jobs, and where necessary, let us
cooperate because we are all charged to ensure safety of every
Nigerian", Manga said.
According to him, "as
critical stakeholders in security, there is need for synergy,
information sharing, and cooperation among us, that way, we can nip any
lapses".
On his part, Imo Police boss, Chris
Ezike said their duties overlap regarding peoples entry into the
country, and assured that his men will not obstruct investigations.
Ezike
disclosed that the force is mopping up illegal arms saying " it is
paying off as our people are submitting theirs willingly. This is
because the influx of arms has been a major cause of problem in the
polity".
He stated the readiness of the Police
command to assist the Immigration with backups whenever required even as
he commended Manga on the innovations he has brought to the Imo
Immigration office.
