reports that twelve (12) months after partaking in a bloody armed robbery
operation at Zenith Bank in Owerri, the Imo State capital, 29-year Chinonso
Gift Onwuegbuchulam, alias Ogoli was nabbed at a hideout in Port Harcourt,
Rivers State where he has been hiding.
Ogoli and three other gang members had participated in
a robbery, at the Wethedral branch of Zenith Bank, in Owerri, on February 22nd,
2017, which left two Policemen dead, as well as one of the armed robbers.
Imo Police Commissioner, Mr Chris Ezike paraded Ogoli
before newsmen at the weekend, after his arrest by the Special Anti-Robbery
Squad (SARS) following intelligence and diligent investigation.
Imo Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), Andrew
Enwerem told The Authority Daily that after the robbery operation, Ogoli
relocated to Lagos, and later Port Harcourt where he stayed in hiding at Close
7 Mgbuakara Eleparawan, Port Harcourt, Rivers State until he was arrested.
Ogoli had remained in hiding because the footage of
the incident had gone viral on the social media wherein he was identified as
the man that collected the money from the victim through a closed circuit
television (CCTV) provided by the bank.
Ogoli hails from Obazu Mbieri in Mbaitoli local
government area of Imo State.
Speaking to newsmen, Ogoli said "out of the N2.8
million we stole, I got a share of N400,000.00. I have been in armed robbery
business since 2012 and have participated in several robbery operations at
Lagos, Port Harcourt and Owerri between
2012 and 2017."
According to him, he regretted participating in the
robbery operation because since then, it has robbed him of his peace and
freedom to live, and reduced him to a life in hiding.
