www.odogwublog.com reports that the State Director, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Awka, Barrister Charles Nwoji, has advised Nigerian students, as the beacon of hope, to work towards restoring the eroding public confidence in the country.
The NOA Director, who was speaking while
playing host to the New Executive Members of the Students Union Government,
Nnamdi Azikiwe University, who were in his office on a courtesy visit, recalled
the roles Nigerian Students played in the nation’s independence movement,
saying that it was something that can never be forgotten easily.
He maintained that the students formed
formidable pressure groups that compelled colonialists to succumb to the demand
for independence and advised the students to guard against any negative move
that could engender the factionalization of their union.
He advised the visiting team to handle
issues with wisdom and also cooperate with the university authority, reminding
them that the Agency is committed towards engaging in activities that would promote
useful synergy with Nnamdi Azikiwe University for the development of the State.
He equally spoke on the intention of the
Agency to launch its Campus Focus programme in the tertiary institutions across
the state which aims at bringing the students closer with the authorities of
the institution.
Earlier in a remark, the New President,
Students Union Government, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka Comrade Igwebuike
Ikenna Chukwudi, said that the new Executive body of the union, thought it wise
and of utmost importance to call on the Director and intimate him on the new Student’s
Union Government in the University.
The Chief of Staff of the Student’s
Union Government, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Comrade Abiaka Wilson, said that
the union has fashioned out a lot of programmes that would benefit the students
and the entire university community, pointing out that the union will not
hesitate in seeking the advice of the leadership of the Agency in the execution
of the said programmes.
Also, the Deputy Director programmes,
NOA, Sir. Joseph Uchendu, pledged the full support of the Agency to the new
Executive Body of the Union and asked them to key into the counter- terrorism and
anti-drug and substance fight of the Federal Government which he said would be
launched in the university community and elsewhere in the state.
