ZIDANE REPLICATE REAL MADRID SUCCESS ELSEWHERE?
"Zizou" as Zinedine Zidane is
popularly called is the current manager of Real Madrid, he faces a fine from
the Spanish FA after criticising Cristiano
Ronaldo's five-match ban. Ronaldo
was shown a second yellow
card for simulation during Real's 3-1 Spanish Super Cup first-leg win over Barcelona
on Sunday night and reacted by pushing referee Ricardo de Burgos
Bengoetxea. Last night Madrid won 2-0 in the return leg at the Bernabeu
without Ronaldo.
Moments after the first-leg, Zidane claimed he
has a spectacular squad. As a player, he won the La Liga
title and the UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid,
two Serie A
league championships with Juventus and an Intercontinental Cup and a
UEFA Super
Cup each with both aforementioned teams.
Remember his 2002 UEFA Champions League Final
left-foot volley winner considered one of the greatest goals in the
competition's history. On the international stage with France, Zidane won the 1998 FIFA World Cup. He was named the FIFA World Player of the Year three times,
in 1998, 2000 and 2003, and won the 1998 Ballon d'Or.
As a coach, he won the UEFA Champions League in his first
season as manager. He became the first
coach to win it back to back and Real Madrid the first club in history to
achieve that feat, he won a La Liga title, the UEFA Super Cup twice and a FIFA
Club World Cup.
The big question is can he replicate the same
feat elsewhere. Is Zidane a superb coach or was just fortunate to have inherited a team
that is at its peak.
