The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Dr. Willie Obiano has
inaugurated the newly established Computerized Vehicle Testing Service centre,
which was done in partnership with TEMPLESYC
LTD saying that it was one of his projects to ensure safety of lives and
property of Ndi Anambra.
During
the inauguration, recently at Awka Governor Obiano said that Computerized
Vehicle Testing Service Centre (CVTSC) which was the first of its kind in the
whole of South East and South South geopolitical zones of Nigeria was just one
out of the three CVTSCs his administration intends to establish, saying that
others will be located at Onitsha and Nnewi in due time to ensure proximity to
car owners and minimize carnage on our roads.
“I am
very delighted this afternoon to commission this modern vehicle clinic. This is
the type of thing you see in Big cities like USA and we decided to bring it
down to this place. One of my main duties as a Governor is to protect lives and
property of indigenes. It is not only to drive away kidnappers, armed robbers
and other miscreants which I have successfully done but also to minimize the
rate of road accidents in our state. One of the major killers of our people I
have observed is road accidents,” he said.
Governor
Obiano further revealed that about 100 Vehicles Inspection Officers (VIO) will
be employed in the state to ensure that there was adequate man power to inspect
vehicle fitness.
“We are going to increase the VIOs by additional 100
persons. If your vehicle is not fit to ply our roads, just come to this clinic.
The importance of this clinic will not be over emphasized. We’re going to
enforce it to make sure that we minimize the rate of road accidents; the
doctors are here to check the problems of your vehicles and rectify them”, said
Obiano
Moreso,
Governor Obiano said that he had equipped the Federal Road Safety Corps with
speed testing gadgets to monitor speed of vehicles of drivers passing through
Anambra State roads, adding that he has provided alcohol detecting devices to
track defaulters who drink while driving.
“This
is an important landmark project. I encourage everybody to come here. We have
intensified the patching of potholes on roads, road decongestion and I have
equally equipped the FRSC with speed testing gadgets and Alcohol detecting
devices. This is not to witch hunt anybody but to ensure that lives of road
users are protected. This administration is not interested in the IGR that will
come from here but rather that vehicles plying our roads are healthy,” said
Obiano.
Earlier
in his address the chairman of ANSIPPA, Igwe Cyril Nweze of Umuoji said that
the three CVTS would gulp about 1.6 billion naira, adding that it would create
jobs, reduce accidents on our roads, reduce pollution of the environment by
vehicles not road worthy and ensure road decongestions. He further called on
other investors to come and invest in Anambra State.
The
Commissioner for Roads, Rail and Water transportation, Princess Chinwe Nwebili
said that her ministry will enforce that road users test their vehicles and get
certification from the facility before issuing them driver’s license t o ensure
road safety.
The Md
of Templesyc Ltd, Segun Obayendo said that the project was what the United
Nations has declared as part of the road safety pillars. He thanked Governor
Obiano for being a detribalized Nigerian and one who placed safety above IGR.
FRSC

facility to ensure their vehicles were road worthy and thanked Governor Obiano
