www.odogwublog.com reports that there was confusion since Monday night at some streets in Nkpor, Idemmili North local Government Area, Anambra state, when some suspected cultists numbering over 20 attacked the area killing one, and maiming others.
The streets attacked were Adazi
-Ani, Amaokpala, Our lady's, Ozigboand All saints.
The cultists on rampage were
suspected to be members of Aye fraternity. They allegedly killed Ifeanyi
Emerie, and another was shot on the leg but he escaped by the whiskers while
scores sustained various degrees of injuries.
The cultists according to reports
had on arrival at the said streets,
started shooting indiscriminately
into the air as they maimed,
attacked and robbed whoever that was
within reach without fear of any
attack at about 9.00pm on the
fateful night.
There were two conflicting reports
to the incident that led to the
death of the deceased, Mr Emerie,
who hailed from Ukwulu in Njikoka
local Government Area.
While one source had it that a rival group, Baga( Akpa )
fraternity had earlier attacked the
Aye which made Aye to embark on a
revenge mission and on sighting the
deceased who was said to be a
member of Baga, shot him on the head
and chest and he died on the
spot, another version has it that he
refused to join Aye despite repeated
efforts and pleas by Aye members to
do so and they had to kill him.
Contacted, the Ogidi Divisional
Police Officer, DPO, Mr Mark Ijarafu,
confirmed the incident adding that
he had sent his men to deposit the
corpse at Iyi-Enu Mission mortuary
Ogidi, pending further
investigation.
As at the time of sending this
report no arrest has been made
according to him but investigation
was ongoing.
