Thugs sack landlords, injure 3, demolish 7 houses in Anambra

Armed men numbering about 30 and believed to be thugs weekend
demolished seven houses, up- rooted demarcation beacons, sacked the
landlords and injured three of them at City Gate community,
Nkwelle-Ezunaka, Oyi Local Government Area, Anambra state.

The incident which took the landlords unaware happened about morning
when some landlords were busy working in their new found land,
procured from the owners, (City gate company ) in 2014.

Reacting to the attack, one of the landlord victims, comrade Damian
Ogudike said, " we bought the plots from the city gate owners in 2014
and commenced  building of our houses, perimeter fencing  and others
since then without any trouble until last weekend when armed men
numbering about 30 stormed the place and caused these  great damages
to our property"

"You can see that about seven bungalows have been demolished by the
invading thugs, the demarcation beacons uprooted and perimeter fences
also demolished"

"When they came we ran for our dear lives and their intention was to
kill atleast one of us so that we will not near the land again.

We have lodged the matter at '33' police station and the police came
to the scene and collected the working tools of the invaders which are
now with them" he revealed.

"They told us that the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, incharge of the
station, Mr Indynar Apev was not on seat when we asked of him"

We urge the state police Commissioner, Mr Sam Okaula to investigate
this matter as we learnt that one of us, a land grabber in our midst,
sent the armed men and replotted the land for sale for monetary gain"

Consequently we sent two of us to him to know the offence we committed
that caused this action and he told them that we better abandon the
land or we will be killed on the process"

As the response did not go down well with the landlords most of who
are retirees, they met with the Nkwelle- Ezunaka community and City
Gate who advised them to take legal action.

Contacted on phone the DPO said he was not aware of the incident.
