UNIZIK Women led by Dr Mrs Ahaneku Gladys urged to be role models----as they set to establish a bakery

www.odogwublog.com reports exclusively that the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Women Association (NAUWA) Awka, Anambra State, has been urged to strive for excellence and be role models in their various areas of assignments within the university community and beyond.
The advice was given by the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Joseph Eberendu Ahaneku at the 2016 Annual General Meeting/ Christmas Party of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Women Association, held in the university’s Auditorium on Wednesday.

Prof Ahaneku said: “It is evident that the wives and, of course, the women are the eyes of the family. They are the managers of the home; including the children and the husband; so, I will encourage all of you, including other women everywhere to play your roles effectively and efficiently, and, at the same time, strive to excellence.

“I’ll advice you also, all of you in the university community, to see all the students in this institution as your children and not as outcasts. The most effective way a mother can train a child is for her to practice what she preaches; so, I will also advise you to be doers of your words. Play your roles well as mothers and the society will be better-off for all of us”, he said, adding that, in response for the call for 35% affirmative action, he has elevated many women in the university community into administrative positions.

The Coordinator and wife of the Vice Chancellor Dr. Mrs. Gladys Ahaneku, a medical doctor and Associate Professor announced that the University women would be starting a bakery in the Institution to serve the University community with quality bread , assuring that they are committed and dedicated for a better Unizik. She thanked the women for their support and appreciated their support to the leadership of the university to actualize its vision and mission.
Speaker of the Anambra state House of Assembly, Right Hon Rita Maduagwu expressed gratitude for the opportunity and re-assured them that whatever way she could support them to ensure their objectives are met that she would especially when issues concerning women are paramount to her even before becoming Speaker.

Earlier in her lecture titled: “Women-Family and Career Management’’, Prof Mrs Igbokwe Philomena Kanwulia ”, Professor of Chemical Engineering,/Sub-dean school of Post Graduate Studies in the university said that the woman is relevant both in the family and her career and that women can succeed in both fields; adding that with well articulated plans, she can manage both and still become successful and happy.
She said that the purpose of the meeting was to encourage women to be the best they can in any chosen career, both at the university community and in nation building; and still make some good marks for the socio-economic growth of the country.

One of the organizers of the event, Mrs Nkechinyere Nwokoye, a professor of Igbo Language in the university, in an interview with The AUTHORITY, praised the wife of the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Dr. Mrs. Gladys Ahaneku for her vision and good initiative in forming the women group, which, according to her, has positively touched lives of many women in the university community since inception.
