Fayose storms Zenith Bank, withdraws money from ‘frozen’ account

Governor Ayo Fayose on Thursday stormed the Zenith Bank branch in Ado Ekiti to withdraw from his bank account that was frozen by the EFCC.
The development came two days after a Federal High Court in Ado Ekiti ordered that the governor’s account should be unblocked by the bank.

The account was blocked by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Taiwo Taiwo, the presiding judge in the case, said Mr. Fayose enjoys absolute immunity from prosecution and no punitive measures could be taken against him.
Mr. Fayose’s account was frozen in June on allegations that he took money from a former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, who is currently being prosecuted for over arms purchase scandal.

The EFCC said it would appeal the ruling.
On Thursday afternoon, the governor’s media assistant, Lere Olayinka, circulated images showing that Mr. Fayose had been to the bank to withdraw a total sum of money.
EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, did not respond to PREMIUM TIMES’ request for comment Thursday afternoon.
