Okunna donates multi million naira radio station to Unizik---Varsity to establish Institute of Diplomacy and Governance Centre

www.odogwublog.com reports that the former Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning in Anambra State, Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna yesterday donated an ultra modern studio complex worth several millions of naira to the Department of Mass Communication, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, UNIZIK, Awka.
The building housing UNIZIK 94.1 FM is known as Prof Chinyere Stella Okunna ‘’Legacy Building’’ was commissioned by the former Governor of Anambra state, Mr Peter Obi in company of the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Joseph Ahaneku FAS. 
The radio station, equipped with the state-of-the-art facilities for transmission, also has an adjoining hall of about 300-seater capacity.
Commissioning the project, the former governor of the state, Mr Peter Obi, said that qualitative information dissemination remains one of the key tools to societal development.
 Obi who eulogized his former commissioner for her generosity, pointed out that an informed society is better positioned to make informed choices capable of uplifting the people.
The former governor, while commenting on the state of the nation, said the country would be experiencing harder times ahead as “we borrow and spend more than we earn for capital vote. So things are not going to be easy for the country.”
Chairman on the occasion, Mr Oseloka Obaze, noted that “this would give the community the opportunity to air their view on issues that concern them.” He appealed to Nigerian media to shun committing credibility suicide related to fabricating and bandying false news.
Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku, while commending the donor Prof Okunna for the outstanding feat unheard of in the Nigerian institution, disclosed that the Governing Council of the institution has approved for the establishment of Institute of Diplomacy and Governance Centre for research in issues of governance.
The donor, Okunna, who doubles as the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences of the institution, pointed out that she was moved to build the radio station as a legacy she would leave behind.
