NDLEA Boss in Anambra, Mr Sule Momodu seeks collaborative fight against drug trafficking in Anambra

www.odogwublog.com reports that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has solicited the support and cooperation of everyone towards the fight against drug trafficking being championed by the agency.
The Anambra State Commandant of the agency, Mr. Sule Momodu, made the call yesterday during a one-day workshop organized by NDLEA in collaboration with the Anambra State Ministry of Local Government, Community and Chieftaincy Affairs in Awka.
He said: “We are calling on everybody to come on board so that we can jointly fight the scourge of drug abuse and trafficking in the state.
“The state governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has approved that a committee be set in each local government for this purpose. They have been set-up; so, what we are doing today is to sensitize them and expose them on what they suppose to do in their various communities in order to fight drug trafficking to a standstill.
“We are, therefore, requesting everybody to join the fight against drug trafficking, because, NDLEA cannot do it alone; and looking at the disastrous effect of drug in the life of any society, we cannot afford to allow the trend to remain among us”.
Momodu said that in the year under review, the agency has arrested and prosecuted 35 drug traffickers, and regretted, however that their efforts towards getting the offenders prosecuted and sentenced accordingly, are being stalled by defense counsels, who introduce various technicalities in court in order to delay justice.
Mrs. Victoria Mgbemena, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government, Community and Chieftaincy Affairs, who represented the Hon. Commissioner in the ministry, noted that drug abuse and trafficking is rampant in Anambra State, and has caused a lot of damages to the government and people of the state. She urged everybody to join hands to fight the problem of drug abuse and bring it to the barest minimum, bearing in mind that the damage and consequences are enormous.
“Drug abuse is very rampant in Anambra, and it has caused a lot of damages to both the offender and the entire community. So, we want everybody to be involved so that we tackle the issue of drug abuse to the barest minimum, bearing in mind the damaging consequences it holds”, she said.
