Njaba women, youths protest; demand removal of Chairman



www.odogwublog.com reports that women and youths irked over the activities of the Chairman of Njaba local government yesterday took over the council headquarters at Nnenasa, demanding his immediate sack over allegations of extortion and high handedness.
The youths and women who were on standby at the council secretariat, immediately barricaded the entrances leading in and out when the Chairman, Chief Bon Nnaka arrived the council headquarters at Nnenasa; preventing workers from having access to their offices and caused huge traffic gridlocks on the busy Orlu - Owerri road.

The leaders of the protesters, Joseph Okwara, Anthony Maduka, Nduka Leonard and Anaemem Obikeze, alleged that the council boss sold their village markets at Eke Okwudor and Afor Atta under the guise that it was Governor Rochas Okorocha's directive. 

They alleged that they were made to pay N75,000 as cost for shop allocation, regretting that up till now, they were yet to take possession of the allotment.
"Nnaka cannot continue extorting us using the name of the Governor. We want him to refund all the money he collected from the market men and women because we have not seen the lock up stores. The T C chairman has no right to withhold public fund without giving account, it is not possible ", Okwara said.
Further, they accused their Transition committee chairman of selling the tractor belonging to the local Government which was said to had been recovered by the former Council chairman, Christian Ibekwe.
The protesting traders bore placards with different inscriptions like  "where is our tractor", "Owelle we are dying, kindly sack Nnaka, TC Chairman", "stop lying against our Governor and return our money immediately".
The protesters also accused their council boss of slashing the monthly salaries of road sweepers from N5000 to N1500 and failing to pay them seven months salary arrears.
When The Authority called the Chairman, Chief Nnaka for his reaction on the allegations, he said he was not disposed to speaking because he was at a meeting addressed by Governor Okorocha.
