JEGED, IBRAHIM KNOW FATE TOMORROW

The court of Appeal, Abuja division, yesterday, fixed tomorrow for the ruling in the Ondo Peoples Democratic Party [PDP]governorship crisis in the state. A panel of three Judges led by Salauwa, fixed the date after taking final arguements by counsels in the matter.  The Senator Ali Modu Sherif- led faction of the party had been in a leadership tussle with the Senator Ahmed Markarfi led caretaker committee. Two candidates have emerged from the factions. While Eyitayo Jegede [SAN]emerged as the governorship candidate of the party from the Markarfi faction, Jimoh Ibrahim emerged from the Ali Modu Sherif faction.

At the initial stage, the party had sent Jegede's name to the Independent National Electoral Commission[INEC] This had prompted the Sherif faction to approach the federal high court sitting in Abuja, challenging the submission of Jegede's name to the commission. The trial judge, Justice Abang Okon in his judgement then ordered INEC to remove Jegede's name and replace same with Ibrahim. Not satisfied with it, Jegede had through his counsel, Chief Wole Olanipekun [SAN], approached the court of appeal for leave to appeal as an interested party. However, the Sherif faction, through his counsel B.E.I Nwufor [SAN] urged the court to dismiss the application. The Sherif camp has also asked the new panel to disband itself on the ground that there is a pending appeal at the supreme Court.
