www.odogwublog.com reports that two rival cult groups in Owaelu - Uratta in Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo state have clashed, leaving one cultist, Aka Dengo dead.
The fracas started following heated arguments which resulted
in exchange of provocative words and fist cuffs.
A source who pleaded anonymity said "two cult groups
engaged themselves in a gun duel which has brought unrest in our community. For
the fear of being harmed, we had to abandon our houses in search of succor in
other communities. We slept outside our homes last night. We learnt that some
of them have died from the clash ".
It was gathered that the clash might be connected with a
fight of supremacy between the rival cult groups, whose stuck in trade was to
terrorize the community and the neighbouring towns.
Imo state police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew
Enwerem confirmed that one cultist, Aka Dengo was murdered in the clash.
The police spokesperson disclosed that the police stormed
the community immediately it received information on the clash. "On
receiving information that two rival cult groups were clashing in Owaelu-
Uratta, we quickly mobilised our men to the community. On sighting police
officers , the cultists vanished into the air. One Aka Dengo whom we are yet to
ascertain which of the cult groups he belonged to was confirmed dead and his body
evacuated immediately ".
DSP Enwerem assured that the police has since restored
normalcy in the community, and disclosed that it has begun a man-hunt for the
fleeing cultists adding that the clash was between Aye confraternity and
another yet to be identified cult group.
