Tight security in Ogidi, as Community sets to elect a new ruler 19 years after

Security has been beefed up at Ogidi Community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra as the people of the community get set to go the poll to elect a traditional ruler this weekend after 19 years without king.

The community will this Saturday elect another king after their previous king died in 1998 but due to several litigations over the throne where the family of late King said that the royal stool was hereditary which the community kicked against and went to court that lasted for years and made the community to remain without king.

The President-General of the Community Chief Chuka Onubuogu while speaking on the scheduled election said that every preparation have been made to ensure a hitch-free election at Ogidi town hall where the entire community will be gathered to elect a new king with option A4 voting system.

He promised that the election would be transparent, free and fair as both the candidates and the community had appointed 16 electoral committee to conduct the election, saying that he has informed the Army, Police, Civil Defense Corps as well as DSS to provide security in case of any eventualities.

According to him, "the case of the kingship had been in the court over the years between the community and Amobi's family the late Igwe's family who claimed that the royal stool was hereditary and we got victory at the High court to elect our king and after the victory at the court we waited for two years for any body to appeal, and there was none and that prompted us to schedule for election to elect a new king".

"So as I am speaking with you there is no injunction restraining us from conducting the election. The election will be held on Saturday and we appealed to the youths and other members of the community to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner to elect any candidate of their choice out of the two candidates, Pharmacist  Albert Rex Ezegbo and Pharmacist Alex Uzo Onyido that are contesting for the Igweship of the community" Onubuogu stated.

Onubuogu further commended the governor of the state Chief Willie Obiano for the good job he is doing in the state and appealed to him to ensure that the wish of the people of the community prevailed at the election rather than wishes of individual or group of individuals.
